About the Cowpuppies

Jak, Cowgirl and Daisy Mae (a.k.a. "The Cowpuppies"; The 3 Musketeers)

September 9th, 2001 - Labor Day

Jak and Cowgirl, the original 'Double Trouble' or 'Yin & Yang'.

Then came 'Moo Moo!', that would be Daisy Mae.

Jak, Cowgirl and Daisy Mae were born in the Bronx (Go Yankees!), New York, in a litter of seven on Labor Day 2001.  Below is Jak & Cowgirl with one of their other littermates, Luna (who is currently up for adoption - click here), when they were with Beth of Stray From The Heart. Don't you just want to squeeze the lovin' crap out of them? (picture is compliments of SFTH)

Their parents, a Bull Terrier and an American Staffordshire Terrier or APBT (not quite sure), were bred to prove to everyone what great companions the pit bull breeds are.  It was unfortunate that their guardians were not able to find matching human companions for them.  That's when they turned to Stray From The Heart (SFTH).

From nine weeks old to a little over a year, they lived with Beth Silberg, one of the most dedicated and loving founders of SFTH.

And we are most grateful for her and the work she does along with the rest of SFTH.  SFTH was able to prudently screen potential adopters, which, you can imagine is very difficult in NYC and this breed, but they do a VERY good job of it.

When we lost Zoë, V.J.'s Samoyed, he began searching to fill that void left in his heart.  That's when he came across Jak and Cowgirl on the SFTH website.  Although they can never replace Zoë, they have done a very good job at filling the void.

Because these two have been together so long and did everything together, SFTH didn't want them separated if possible.  Which we didn't mind at all.

Here they are running around in a shallow part of the river behind our house.

Here they are running through the field at the end of our street.

Thankfully, after processing hundreds of applicants looking to adopt them, they had not found them another home, until our application came to them, and several phone messages from V.J.

As soon as we met them, it was instant 'Puppy Love At First Site'!  We have never witnessed the reaction that they gave us when we first met them, with anyone else.

It was as if they were waiting for us to bring them home, and that we did!  November 3rd, 2001 (after convincing Beth to let go of them, ;)).

And what a home they've made for themselves!

Then, in April of 2004, we received an urgent e-mail from Beth of SFTH requesting help to find their sister Daisy Mae a home.

Being that she was Jak & Cowgirl's sister, we decided to meet her and see how everyone got along.

Luckily she came from a loving and caring environment, but one that could no longer provide the attention she desperately needed.

Well, they're just three peas in a pod now.

It's funny how she makes Jak and Cowgirl seem so much older than her, even though their all from the same litter.

If Jak & Cowgirl were to mate, Daisy would be their daughter, (of course that could never happen, their fixed and besides, that would be incest....)

Daisy has Jak's personality and Cowgirl's looks.

All makes for a full, happy and very eventful home!  :)

Late Morning freshness....

Where'd Jaki go?

There he is!

Nothing like laying around in bed with family.

Sigh... too much running around on this day.

Trying to grow grass in the Spring isn't that easy with 3 dogs.

Especially this one, "the freshest sweet girl EVER!"

Soaking in the sun.

Jaki hanging with his Daddi.

Jaki and Daisy helping Mommi work.

Jaki, standing guard over his sister Cowgirl as usual.
